This spinach and strawberry salad is a perfect way to add colour to your plate and it’s packed with Therapeutic Foods from the Institute for Functional Medicine’s Detox Food Plan.


Therapeutic Detox foods in this recipe:

  • Almonds
  • Olive Oil
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries
  • Green Onion


Yield: 4 servings


  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, quartered or halved depending on size


  • 4-6 cups fresh spinach, washed, dried, torn into pieces


  • 1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans or sliced almonds


  • 1/2 cup chopped Feta (optional)


  • 1 green onion (white and green), chopped


  • 1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar


  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil

  • Salt & Pepper to taste



  1. Place cut berries over spinach in a serving bowl.
  2. Add chopped green onion and drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
  3. Season with salt & pepper to taste.
  4. Mix to incorporate dressing through the spinach and berries.
  5. Garnish with nuts and crumbled Feta.




Top Tip:

Why not try using infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars.  Aurelius Fine Oils suggests their Strawberry Balsamic and Basil infused olive oil for a delicious variation that will really make the strawberry flavour pop.
